🏁 Cadillac Splits with Chip Ganassi and the 2025 Schedule is Revealed!

Hi IMSA fans!

Yes, yes I know I missed last weeks newsletter and am a little late with this one! Sometimes work/life just happens! It’s not the first and I’m sure it won’t be the last time! With that said though we have certainly had some interesting announcements/news to talk about in this one!

Cadillac and Chip Ganassi Racing to Part Ways

🏎️ Why it matters: In a twist that I certainly didn’t anticipate for my 2024 bingo card, Cadillac and Chip Ganassi Racing will part ways at the end of the season. CGR, which ran Cadillacs back in the DPi days, were instrumental to the development of the V Series.R. Their results with the car, specifically in IMSA, have been a bit lacking and they have suffered from a tremendous amount of bad luck since the cars introduction. At the most recent race at Sebring, the 01 looked poised for a big win when full course yellows in the final hour and a hard-charging Delatraz put an end to those dreams. The question that now remains is who is going to run that program in IMSA. At this point, all signs point to Actions Express Racing assuming the second Cadillac entry, after all, they had a huge breakthrough win at Sebring last year en route to the GTP championship. However, one can only wonder if we might see a surprise team emerge here. Could we see Meyer Shank Racing come back onto the scene with a bang? Perhaps a NASCAR team like Hendrick Motorsports or Trackhouse would be interested in continuing their GM alliance over into IMSA. One thing is for sure though, and it’s that we won’t be seeing Chip Ganassi Racing running Cadillacs next year.

AWA Reduced to a Single Corvette

🏎️ Why it matters: A strange turn of events took place last week when Anthony Mantella announced on social media that the number 17 AWA Corvette was up for sale. The team later clarified that the number 17 was being withdrawn from the remainder of the season. It’s disappointing to see a car withdrawn and sold so suddenly, especially given the hype behind these customer Corvettes. The Corvettes haven’t lived up to expectations, but as a brand new car, growing pains can be expected. However, Anthony Mantella, the gentleman driver and owner of the car, seems to have grown tired of these expensive growing pains and decided to stop the program. This setback is a significant blow for AWA, who are now reduced to a one-car operation. Hopefully, there is a driver out there willing to purchase the car and run it with AWA. After all, AWA who have emerged as a strong up and coming team was selected by Corvette as the sole customer team in IMSA. It would be unfortunate to see a great opportunity for AWA fade away due to circumstances largely out of their control.
